Letter of the Ambassador of Ukraine in the Republic of Lithuania H.E. Mr. Borys Klimchuk

Dr. Laima Liucija ANDRIKIENĖ
Member of the European Parliament

Vilnius, 7 June 2007

Dear Laima Liucija ANDRIKIENĖ,

I would like to express my deep gratitude for Your personal efforts and support of Members of Your Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) and European Democrats of the draft report on the mandate for negotiations of European Union with Ukraine regarding a new basic agreement between Ukraine and EU, that for first time clearly declares future membership of our state in the European Union.

I would like to stress that the decision of European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs became an extraordinarily important positive and consolidating signal to all Ukrainian people on the way of realization of national goal to obtain full-fledged membership in the European Community.

We realize that progress of European integration depends on Ukraine. In order to meet criteria of EU membership, we are ready to pass difficult way of reforms and transformations, involving all state institution and society. But at the same time it is very important to have external support from the EU side and open doors for Ukraine.

I do hope that voting in July by the Members of European Parliament for mentioned resolutions will have positive result and its provisions will be fundamental landmark for the European Union and European Commission during negotiation process with Ukraine.

I appreciate good impressions from our recent meeting in Vilnius that, in my opinion, was too pleasant and useful.

Sincerely Yours,

Borys Klimchuk
