Rannveig Bremer Fjoer

In the very heart of Europe
There is a lovely land
I wonder how you have survived
With so many enemies at hand
I know that you have courage
I know that you are strong
But still, how can you win the war
with giants all around?

May be it's because of the way you behave
The way you meet troubles and pains
You are faithful
You are stubborn
And you have brave

You are a faithful people
In whom the Lord can trust
When burdens you are meeting
You take them to the cross
Just outside Siauliai city
Thousands of crosses you will se
It is a sign of confidence
To the Lord that made you free

So many times they tried
To destroy your precious hill
But you returned there once again
And brought your crosses still
You brought your prayers and your needs
With hope of peace and love
You returned to make your sacrifice
And seeds of freedom sow

At last the wind of Perestroika
Was blowing in the sun
So patiently you waited
Where are we going on?
So when the wind was blowing
You did not take the bus
You made a line of people
From Tallinn to Vilnius

You patiently resisted
The fierce, angry blows
Through prisons, camps and deportation
Through sickness, death and vows
At last in 1990
Your sovereignty was declared
At Vilnius TV tower
A martyrdom was shared

We have some new-won friends
Just across the Eastern Sea
We feel that we are relatives
Just like brothers it seems to me
I wonder we feel so close
Why we go on so well
I have an explanation
Just now I will you tell

May be it's because of the way we behave
The way we meet troubles and pains
We are faithful
We are stubborn
And we are brave
